A new handset from TCL called the TCL 562 will go on sale on Amazon from 3rd August for Rs. 10,999. This handset is powered by MediaTek Helio P10 octa core processor and packed with 3GB RAM.

TCL 562 features and specifications

This handset is using the MediaTek Helio P10 MT6755M octa core processor clocked at 1.8GHz with Mali T860 GPU. It’s a dual SIM handset sporting a 5.5 inch screen with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution with 5 point multi touch support.

This TCL smartphone is loaded with 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM plus micro SD card support of up to 64GB. Users will get around 22GB free space. Handset weight is 150 grams with battery and thickness is 7.99mm. TCL 562 is running Marshmallow out of the box.

The camera on the rear is a 13MP AF shooter with dual tone LED flash support. Front camera can shoot in 5MP resolution (Wide angle lens) and the front camera also comes with front flash. Other features are 4G LTE (cat 4), 3G, 2G, GPS, FM radio, WiFi and Bluetooth.

Reliance has launched another handset in LYF Water series, the LYF Water 8. This handset is powered bySnapdragon 615 octa core chipset, is using a AMOLED screen and packed with 3GB RAM. Reliance LYF Water 8 is priced at Rs. 10,999.

Xiaomi Redmi Pro with dual camera lens goes official TODAY

Xiaomi today at an event in China has officially announced the Xiaomi Redmi Pro. Key highlight is the dual cameras on the rear. Redmi Pro is powered by MediaTek Helio X25 Deca Core (10 core chipset).

There is a 13MP AF camera on the back using SONY IMX 258 along with 5MP secondary camera.  13MP camera captures still images and the 5MP captures the depth. Dual cameras shoot simultaneously and image goes though hardware level processing delivering DSLR type (bokeh) quality.

Xiaomi Redmi Pro is powered by Helio X25 deca core chipset with Mali T880 GPU, comes with hybrid SIM slot and packed inside a brushed metal body. This handset is loaded with 4GB RAM and 128GB ROM. Touch screen is 5.5 inch OLED display with FHD resolution. MIUI 8 based on Marshmallow runs out of the box.

There is finger print sensor on the front, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and USB Type C port. Micro SD card of up to 128GB is supported. 4G with VOLTE is supported. This handset gets power from a 4050 mAh battery. Pro will be available in Dark Grey, Silver and Gold colour options.

BlackBerry the well known brand has launched the BlackBerry DTEK50 smartphone that is running Android Marshmallow out of the box (fully Android). DTEK50 as per BlackBerry is also the most secure smartphone in the world. It is priced at $299 (Approx Rs. 20K).

The official website does not mentioned anything about if the handset comes with dual or single SIM slots, but the image shown has only one network bar, indicating single SIM.

ZTE global mobile device maker launched two premium devices the ZTE Axon Mini and the ZTE Blade V6 in India. Blade V6 carries a price tag of Rs. 9,999 whereas the Axon Mini though has a word Mini in the name is priced at Rs. 23,599.

This dual SIM handset is powered by quad core processor clocked at 1.3GHz MediaTek with Mali T720 GPU. Handset is 6.8mm thick and sports a 5 inch IPS screen with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution. Blade V6 is running Lollipop with 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM + SD card support.

Corning Gorilla Glass is being used on 4.5 billion devices, the company has now announced the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 that raises the bar of protection. Devices using Gorilla Glass 5 will survive 80% of the time.

The Glass 5 comes with considerable improvements when compared with Gorilla Glass 4. This new glass is 2x more damage resistant. Gorilla Glass 5 will also provide better drop protection. It will survive up to 80% of the time when dropped from a height of 1.6 meter.

Moreover the Glass 5 is tougher, more damage resistant, touch sensitive and provides greater optical clarity. As per the statistics given by the company 60% of smartphone users at some point of time may have accidentally dropped their devices from waist and shoulder height.

Does Gorilla Glass provide full protection?

These glasses do provide a good lot of protection; in most cases you don’t really need a screen guard. But do note these glasses break, so don’t expect them to make your phone unbreakable. If you have read the statement by Corning that says – there is an 80% chance that the device using Gorilla Glass 5 will survive from a drop of 1.6 meters.

Yes 80% chance, the other 20% depends on a lot of factor. Many users have asked me why I don’t do drop test, this the precise reason, the 20% variation is huge if you consider Gorilla Glass 5. Most smartphones are using Gorilla glass 4 the survival rate from such height is even lower.

It’s more about luck, the environment you are in, the ground quality, the smartphone area of impact and if additional force was applied when dropped.

Drop test / bend test are done to get more traffic, views don’t take them seriously, you still need to be careful with your device.

Moto Turbo now getting Marshmallow update

Motorola has finally rolled out software update on the Motorola Moto Turbo handsets in India. Marshmallow update has already been rolled out on Moto Turbo devices, some users have already confirmed getting the update.

This is an OTA update (over the air). If you are using the Turbo XT1225 device you might have already got the update or try checking the same manually. If you have got the update notification, download it and installed it. Better take a backup of your handset and keep battery % at over 75.

Moto Turbo was launched in India in March 2015with a price tag of Rs. 42,000. As of now this handset is available for Rs. 31,999. To give you a brief idea the Moto Turbo is a 4G single SIM handset powered by Snapdragon 805 quad core processor.

The handset was running Lollipop with 3GB RAM and 64GB ROM. Screen is 5.2 inches – super AMOLED with 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution and protected with GG3. Primary camera is 21MP and secondary camera is 2MP. Moto Turbo houses a 3900 mAh battery with fast charging support.

Redmi Note 3 users getting Jio Preview offer?

Though there is no official confirmation from Reliance or Xiaomi about the Jio Preview offer, there is some unconfirmed news about Jio Preview offers for Redmi Note 3 users. Reliance is already offering the Preview on selected Samsung devices.

If you call Reliance or Xiaomi service center, they know what you know, they have no clue about the offer. Users need to download the Jio app, install and run it, then generate the bar-code that will allow them to get a SIM with Jio Preview offer.

Now this works from selected Samsung devices that have already been approved by Reliance. Have any of you been able to get the Jio offer on Redmi Note 3? I really doubt it, if there was something, Reliance and Xiaomi would have definitely made it public.

Probably some glitch on the MyJio app that made someone lucky!

It is now confirmed that there is  a bug on the Jio app that allows bar code to be generated at times, the Reliance Jio personals have been strictly advised not to  issue SIM’s / active offers for users using any other handset other than some selected Samsung models and Reliance LYF smartphones, for now.

REDMI OS MIUI 8 Global Beta rolled out download now

Good news for those waiting for the MIUI 8 OS, the Global Beta ROM has been rolled out, you will need to manually install the ROM. For now the MIUI 8 Beta supports Redmi Note 3G, Note 4G, Note prime, Redmi 2 and Mi Max (32GB).

Do note this is the beta version not the final version, you might face some issues. If you are not comfortable, ignore this and wait for the final version that will be via OTA automatic update. If you want to try and know what you are doing go ahead and experience the MIUI 8 before everyone else.

What’s new in MIUI 8

Apart from new sets of animation, color and interface the MIUI 8 comes loaded with a lot of new features. Users can now add music and special effects to videos that they just recorded. Scrolling screenshots is another interesting feature wherein users can take screenshots not just of what they see on the screen but 2 of more screen (pages) below.

Samsung today launched the Galaxy J2 2016 (new addition in J series) and the J Max handset in the Indian markets for Rs. 9,750 and Rs. 13,400 respectively. J2 is a smartphone sporting a 5 inch screen and the J Max is a tablet sporting a 7 inch screen with 4G support.

TCL 560 now available on Amazon for Rs. 7999

Another quad core handset the TCL 560 is listed and available on Amazon  for Rs. 7,999. This handset is powered by Snapdragon 210 quad core processor, packed with 2GB RAM and comes with 4G LTE with VoLTE support.

Display, Chipset and OS

The TCL 560 as mentioned houses the qualcomm snapdragon 210 Quad Core processor (MSM8909) clocked at 1.1GHz coupled with Adreno 304 GPU. This dual SIM smartphone sports a 5.5 inch IPS screen supporting 1280 x 720 pixels resolution; it’s fully laminated display with oleophobic coating. Android Marshmallow version 6.0 runs out of the box.

Memory, storage and camera

TCL 560 is loaded with 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM and 32GB external micro SD card support.  User also get 5GB free TCL cloud storage space. On the back there is an 8MP AF camera with LED flash and on the front you will find a 5MP shooter with front flash.
