After a long wait, popular mobile instant messenger app, WhatsApp has finally started rolling out video calling feature on its mobile app. The feature has started rolling out on devices that have received the update version 2.16.356 and will be made available to more Android, iOS and Windows Phone users in the next few days. You can find out what version of WhatsApp you are on, by heading to Settings->About and Help->About.
Just in case you have not received the update for voice calls just yet, no need to panic, because this is being rolled out to users in batches, and you will also get the update pushed to your phone automatically.

One of the easiest ways of getting access to recently launched feature is by becoming a beta tester for the app. If you are an Android user and haven’t received this feature yet on your WhatsApp, you can sign up for beta testing by opening the WhatsApp page on the Google PlayStore, scroll down to the end of the page and select to beta testing. This won’t affect any of your existing data, messages or experience on WhatsApp.
Once the app is updated, you can head to the WhatsApp homepage and select any of the individual contacts from chats or contact, then tap on the call icon (signified by a telephone) at the top of the chat page. At least on an Android phone, this will open a tab with two options — voice call and video call.
Tap on the video call and you can carry out a video chat like any other video calling app including Microsoft’s Skype. The other way to make a video call is to tap on the display/profile picture of any individual user and you can see the video chat button right after the calling button. As of now, the feature can only be used with individual users and not in group chats.
The addition of this feature makes Facebook’s WhatsApp a one-stop solution for all communication needs of a user and is likely to send warning bells to other messaging apps that had been cashing on the absence of this feature in WhatsApp.
