Deal Alert: The Original Galaxy Tab S 10.5 (Verizon LTE Version) Is On eBay For $360, Ships Internationally

Samsung's top-end tablets tend to be much more expensive than their contemporaries, and even more so if you spring for a mobile radio. Today (and only today!) you can grab the original Galaxy Tab S 10.5, with a 16:10 Super AMOLED screen and a Verizon LTE radio, for just $359.99 on eBay. That's an incredible $500 and change off of the original retail price, and about $100 off of the going rate for the year-old tablet. This is a new item in the white-and-gold color, but hurry - according to the eBay listing, this is deal will be gone in about 12 hours (approximately 12 PM Eastern US time on Monday).

Remember that Verizon's LTE radios are (naturally) designed to be used on the Verizon network, but they're also compatible with standard 3G on GSM frequencies as well. That means that you'll probably be able to use this tablet with AT&T, T-Mobile, and most international carriers, just not with LTE speeds. Here's the full band list:

2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 19003G bands HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 21004G bands LTE band 3(1800), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800); LTE 850 / 2100

Other specs include a 2.2Ghz Samsung Krait processor, 16GB of storage plus a MicroSD card slot, and an 8MP rear camera. Since it's a Verizon model, you probably won't be able to unlock the bootloader.

Customers in the United States get free economy shipping, with sales tax only in New Hampshire. If you're an international reader, you might still be able to take advantage of the deal: the description says that shipping is available to all of North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa. Again, the listing will only be active for just over another 12 hours, so get an order in quickly if you want one.

AuraVR Plastic VR headset at Rs.650

The AuraVR is another VR device available in the India market. What makes it different is that it is made of plastic and comes with a head band with adjustable strap. This VR is available on Amazon.in and on AuraVR.com website for ₹650.

Box pack
Inside the box you will get the VR headset and head strap. There is no assembling required, just attach the head strap and start using it.
Design
The AuraVR is made of plastic and it’s a made in India product. It is using good quality plastic but finishing could have been better, nevertheless for this price you can ignore that. This VR will definitely last longer than the cardboard VR, these are more reliable and durable.
Attach the head strap to get a hands free VR experience. I have used the OnePlus Cardboard, you need to hold the device but with Aura VR you can go hands free, it is an added advantage.
AuraVR review
The VR also comes with a magnetic trigger that will work only with smartphones with magnetic sensors. It is advisable to go for the VR headset only if your smartphones supports magnetic and gyro sensors for a good 360 degree VR experience.
When you attach the handset there is a sponge inside that will secure the smartphone, prevent it from slipping out – you will also need to lock the front white rectangular cap. It is easier to lock it but not that easy to unlock it, they should have used an easier locking system. You can use any smartphone with up to 6 inch screen.
The Velcro head strap is adjustable, check video review on how to attach it.
AuraVR head strap for hands free experience
Performance
You will need to download the VR app, install it, run it and align the reference line on your smartphone with the VR after attaching the phone to the VR headset. You can also check for more recommended VR apps on the AuraVR.com website.
When compared with the OnePlus cardboard the Aura VR was slightly better.
Verdict
Another affordable VR headset that is made of plastic and made in India. If you want to experience virtual reality using your smartphone and want something reliable that will last for a longer time, you can go in for the AuraVR.

How to buy handsets and other electronic devices from Chinese online stores

There are many new handsets being launched in India, unfortunately there are better ones with latest hardware available on Chinese websites. You can buy the handsets from Chinese online stores, and here is what you should know.
Now before you plan to go ahead with the purchase do note that there is a minor risk, it is with reference to the device you order. For example you might face issues with the phone you bought or it does not start at all, in such a case sending the device back / after sales support will not be that easy. But in most cases you will get a perfectly working phone, but yes keep in mind there is this small risk. You should also check the terms and conditions from the site you are buying.

There are two ways to order you can either go for the express shipping or ordinary registered post. The express shipping is costlier but in the end the shipping cost + custom duty comes up to the same as normal shipping, though better to use express shipping as it delivers faster.
Now avoid using gift / lower invoice value especially for mobile phones. It is better to be honest and if possible ask the seller to attach a screen shot of the product with the actual price.
I have used both ordinary post and express shipping and here are my experiences.

Ordinary registered Post
This is cheaper takes a lot of time and the custom duty is always higher, better to avoid it for high cost products (over Rs. 7000).
Express shipping
This will cost you extra, its faster and the custom duty is comparatively lower.
In general the extra charges i.e. shipping + customs will come to near about the same for both express / ordinary post.
Some users / sellers suggest to ship the handset with lower price tag like $30 or under so as to avoid the custom duty for such devices. However it will all depend on your luck if you are lucky you will not have to pay any duty, but if you are not, you will end up paying the actual duty + in some cases extra fine that will be much, much higher will cost you 2x or more the amount you spend on your phone.
How much custom duty you need to pay?
Well you can check it on dutycalculator.com but do note that every time the duty will be different, depending on the custom official inspecting your device. Just to give you an idea. I have paid Rs. 4,000 for a Rs. 7,000 device (using ordinary post), at times Rs. 900 for a Rs. 8,000 device (using DHL). And recently Rs. 6,200 for 2 smartphones totaling to $320 from China using DHL post. Also better to attach screen shot for device + price from the seller website as proof. And guess what I got the OnePlus One from USA (a long time back) – $349, that time I paid Rs. 3,420 for custom + shipping, Customs Duty was Rs. 1,573.
It is safe to assume that for a 160$ handset from China you will end up paying anywhere from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 3000 total custom duty.
Where do you pay the custom duty?
If you have ordered it from normal post you will need to pay it to the postman. And if you have used express shipping you will have to pay to the courier guy at the time of delivery.
